St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded by Danny Thomas in 1962, and has treated more than 18,000 young cancer patients, regardless of ability to pay.  St. Louis has a number of St. Jude families and the research and treatment given by St. Jude has enhanced the survival rate of many catastrophic diseases across the country.
